The Point-In-Time Count (PITC):
The PITC is an important annual event to count the number of people who are homeless throughout our County. Hundreds of volunteers are trained and mobiliized to count on one day. Our latest count occurred on January 29, 2010. We are gathering the results and will publish the results.
WHY WE COUNT :
- Increased ability to prepare statistical and programmatic reports for funders, boards and other stakeholders
- Provide agencies with important data on our homeless population - critical for federal and state grant applications.
- Assist in funding from HUD-SHP (Supportive Housing Program). In order to receive these funds an annual count is required.
- Assist in local and regional planning.
- Provide an updated profile of the homeless in San Diego.
- Benefit any organization that provides services to San Diego’s homeless.
- The RTFH count is the ONLY region-wide comprehensive count.
- To ultimately provide for necessary services that address homelessness issues in San Diego County.
