SAN DIEGO –  Community HousingWorks CEO Sean Spear has been named the new Chair of the Continuum of Care (CoC) Advisory Board for the Regional Task Force on Homelessness (RTFH). Spear brings a unique perspective to the chairmanship, having served as a top local and state government leader in successive community development roles in cities and states around the country. Spear has served as a CoC Board member since 2020.

“I’m thrilled to serve as the new Chair of the Regional Task Force on Homelessness’ CoC Advisory Board,” Spear said. “While there’s a lot of work to be done, there’s immense opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our unsheltered neighbors. I look forward to working with my fellow board members and other stakeholders to use all of the available tools, knowledge and talent at our disposal to end homelessness in San Diego.”

With a background in affordable housing development and the creation of supportive housing through public/private partnerships, Spear’s background will be an asset to the CoC Advisory Board.

“Our Continua is so grateful to have Sean as our new CoC Advisory Board Chair,” said CEO Tamera Kohler. “As a leader Sean understands the complex challenges and solutions to addressing homelessness. He is a passionate housing leader, creating new homes across our region. Sean’s perspective and insight will be key as we work to end homelessness.”

Prior to joining Community HousingWorks in 2020, Sean was the Assistant General Manager at the Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department (now LAHD) where he was responsible for leading its housing production efforts and directing the operations of its Housing Development Bureau. The Bureau facilitates the financing of housing development projects with its business and community partners, leveraging its resources to the maximum benefit of the City’s residents and neighborhoods.

Spear will replace past Board Chair Rick Gentry, who retired in March, 2022. The next meeting of the CoC Board will be on April 25th, 2022.
