Joshua Coyne (he/him) is a civic and nonprofit leader, currently serving as Vice President of Philanthropy at the Downtown San Diego Partnership. In this role, he leads fundraising as well as advocacy efforts that shape transformative policies and partnerships across the region. He also oversees the Unhoused Care Teams who work at the City of San Diego’s O Lot Safe Sleeping Shelter, Family Reunification Program as well as the Coordinated Street Outreach Program.
Prior to this, Josh directed government affairs and policy for San Diego’s City Council District 2, working closely with then Council President Jennifer Campbell to advance initiatives focused on public safety, housing, and homelessness. He began his career in higher education, serving as Assistant Director of Student Leadership at the University of San Diego. Josh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Niagara University and a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Canisius College.
Beyond his professional work, Josh has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to public service through volunteerism and board leadership. He served on the Board of Directors for San Diego LGBT Pride, where he has helped expand inclusive programming for LGBTQ+ youth, including the Pride Youth Zone and partnership efforts with The Trevor Project. Josh was also a former co-chair of The Trevor Project’s San Diego Ambassador group and has volunteered as a crisis counselor supporting LGBTQ youth in need. His leadership has been recognized with honors such as the Spirit of Stonewall Award and Ambassador of the Year from The Trevor Project.
